I have hiked over the decades with everything from a 4 x 5 view camera to a Sony RX 100. For the first time in a while, I am leaving the full frame behind and just using the original RX 100. I am 77 years old. Last several years, I backpacked with my Sony A7r3 and two lenses. Here is the secret to making it tolerable. I attach adjustable cords to the upper frame near the load lifter straps, and run them a couple inches down each shoulder strap. At the end there are magnetic locking clasps that connect to a similar clasps on my camera. Once adjusted, the camera is carried by the pack frame down to my hips. I have a pocket on my hip belt for my very nice 21 mm zeiss loxia (300+ gm).
Now that I am past my "best by" date, I have to shave weight.
